I did the fit test, which by the way takes about 20 or so minutes to complete. It is not by any means a work out it is really just a test to see what you can endure and to see if you will be able to complete the actual workouts. I know from research that the workouts will be very hard and I won't, by any stretch of the imagination be able to complete them at first. I just hope trying will really build up my endurance and help me to be better and more healthy.
The results of my personal test were not as bad as I thought but I am far from fit.
Pull ups, Day 1 (semi got there with the help of a chair on one) so the outcome if I am honest is a big fat zero NADA Zilch.... Wow can't wait to see what it is on day 90 (How is that for staying positive tee hee). The minimum was 1 for woman and I knew I would not be able to do it and it won’t stop me from continuing.
Need I mention you’re supposed to do these test actions to the point of failure, where you just can not do another one? Where you try and try and your body just says “sucker give it up” I am not so sure I pushed to that point, I made the mistake of looking at what the minimum was and basically did that.
Vertical Leap, let me just say this is difficult to do only in the sense of measuring. I ended up doing it by standing next to the wall raising my arm and marking a small red mark on the wall where it was, then I measured it 72” I then took one step back and jumped. (I did this in the basement so not sure if the walls are really kind of short). I was almost able to reach the ceiling, and actually jumped eight (8) inches higher than my mark. YAY!! The minimum was 5.
Push Ups, for woman it was a minimum of 3 for regular toe push ups which is what I did. I managed to do 9, not to shabby for a 40 year old exercise virgin!!
Toe touch, yep the long haul stretch, when was the last time I could touch my toes without bending my knees??? Ummm when I was maybe 10. I just made it to -6 inches from my toes and that was really pushing it, if I relaxed and did it I was at -9 inches. I certainly have a long way to go on that one. But I will take it and the number to beat was 6 so I am good.
Wall Squat, this is where you lean your back against the wall and act like your sitting in a chair that is not there, hold it for as long as your legs allow, you can even slide down and keep timing but once your gluteus maximum hits the floor stop. I actually stopped timing before it hit the floor because my legs were shaking and I thought I would not be able to get up (well kind of) I made it the required one minute. And not a second more.
Bicep Curls, I actually thought this would be kind of easy and it was, I seem to think I should have used a larger weight but we will see, it said an 8 pound weight for woman and at least 10 reps. I did a 7 lb weight (it was all I had handy) and stopped at 22 reps, I could have done more but it is not a workout it is a test. So that was done and out of the way and the next one was odd.
In and Outs, You sit on the floor and legs bend feet on the floor arms at sides. Pull your legs up knees to chest straighten legs out and back in for one rep continue without touching the floor with your feet until you can’t do more. This was so easy for me I thought perhaps I was doing it wrong, but the instructions are pretty vivid. So I did 28 the minimum was 25.
The last one is where my bad habit of smoking has come into play. I have quit and it was recently so I know this will affect me, and I will have to work through it. So with that being said you are supposed to do 2 minutes of quick jumping jacks, with the last 30 seconds as fast as you can go then measure your heart rate right when you’re done then every minute after for four minutes. You should be able to finish this and stay standing and breathing. I made it just over a minute, and took my rates. I was out of breath and I thought my heart was going to break through my chest cavity and punch me in the face for making it actually work for a change. My rates were as follows. 160 right as I stopped, minute 1 was 136, minute 2 was 128, minute three was 120, minute four was 120. I don’t know if those are good I will assume not. I failed this test as well, but I think if I push and really dedicate myself I will be able to get through this and become a better person for myself and my family.
I realize I have to get a heart rate monitor with a stop watch for these activities and I will be doing that today. Tomorrow 5:30am I start the workouts. I am going to watch the introductory video and if it scares me I will post my reactions. =)
